Still behind!

Well, Christmas is almost here and I am still behind schedule! The good thing is that I am getting closer to the last chapter! Just need to add some more detail, bring any lose threads to a close and bring this baby home!

It wont be long now! (Thats what the dog said when he got his tail cut off in the screen door!)

Slow going...but still going!

I have been slowly pecking at the keyboard lately...it has been busy at work and busy at home. Productivity has been at a minimum! But don't worry, with winter rolling in and work slowing down, I am seeing more time for writing on the horizon! I still hope to have a working manuscript by Christmas and maybe something in print by early next year!

Stay tuned for a new excerpt soon!

ZRT Forums Updated

In the book, the main character is a member of the ZRT or Zombie Response Team. It is actually a real group of people and we have a real forum. I spent a few days getting the forums into shape along with another member named Andrew. They turned out awesome! Be sure to have a look!

Now, back to work on the novel! We're half way there, and the story is really heating up!

50 Percent

My target for 'Reborn' is 75,000 words which is one of the requirements for a feature length novel. I am almost at 50% so I'm starting to get really excited! The story is coming along well. It has several plot twists and still several to come. I think it will be a hit! It may sound weird, but I don't have a solid ending yet! But I do know where the story is going, so I just need to tie up all the loose ends and climax with a great ending!

TEOTWAWKI

The End Of The World As We Know It. This term can have many meanings...the end of humanity, the end of the world, or maybe just the end of everything that we are accustomed to. In the book, the main character is forced to accept the fact that he has to abandon his home and move to a safer location. It's hard for him to change everything that he is accustomed to but he must to survive. He and his family must choose what items to bring with the on the journey to a new home. Not everything can go so they must choose. Other than food and water, what would you decide to take? What do you absolutely need to survive TEOTWAWKI?

Research

I did a little "Research" over the weekend by watching a few zombie movies. Diary of the Dead and Zombie Strippers kept me entertained but neither was a very good movie. I do need to see 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later. I don't like to watch to many movies or read other books that pertain to my topic while writing. I don't want my ideas to be influenced by other story lines. But a little research never hurts!

Slow Going

Wow. It is hard to write a novel in the summer. So many things going on. It leaves little time to write. I am averaging about 2-3 thousand words per day which isn't too awful bad. I hope to have the first draft done by Fall. I plan on doing the final edit and publisher submissions in the Winter. My goal is to have this book in print early 2010 but I'm not ruling out mid to late 2010 before it hits shelves. (Hopefully, JJ Abrams will sign on to direct the movie shortly there after!) I know, wishful thinking...but you never know, stranger things have happened.

Plot Development

I'm excited about the major plot development towards the end of chapter 2! The stage is set for the first climatic interlude midway through the novel. I've been slowly building the tension while painting the background story and introducing some characters. After the first plot climax, it's going to be a wild ride! I've never been more excited about the impending Zompocalypse!

First Excerpt

I'm using several different tenses in order to tell this story. The most dominate tense is a first person journal style technique, but this story won't be limited by first person story telling!

Here is an excerpt from the second chapter...

I took a deep breath as I focused on the target. Everything around me went into slow motion and it became deafeningly silent. The only thing I could hear was my racing heartbeat and the adrenaline surging through my body. My grip on the shotgun tensed as I squeezed the trigger. The big Mossberg came to life with a thundering report. I instinctively racked the slide in preparation for a follow up shot, but as the smoke and gray mist cleared, the threat was gone from my sight picture. It’s head was all but vaporized by my shotgun blast and the body lay motionless outside my gate.

Work Continues

I got back to writing today. I have a projected target of 75,000 words. So far I'm up to almost 10,000 words! Not a bad start, but I'm still looking at several months of hard writing to get the story out of my rambling mind and into this machine! Stay tuned for more info and book excerpts in the near future!

New blog design!

I just couldn't handle the old, one column blog. No room for sidebar features. So, instead of working on the novel, I spent a few more minutes redesigning the blog!
